This is an occasional newsletter which is sent out to all registered Groupboard and GroupWorld.net customers a few times a year.

New options: put up hand, disable private chat, beep on login

A number of new features have been added to both Groupboard and GroupWorld.net, including:

• an optional "put up hand" button, allowing users to attract the attention of a tutor or teacher.
• a "disable private chat" option, to prevent users from being able to whisper to each other in the text chat.
• a "beep on login" option, which notifies other users when anyone logs on.

All of these options are described in the admin help pages for Groupboard, and in the "create new room" page for GroupWorld.net. Contact us if you need more info.

New keepalive option for Groupboard to combat "Lost connection" errors

We have recently added a "keepalive" option to Groupboard which sends out dummy data every 55 seconds to prevent the connection becoming idle. This prevents users being kicked off if their router is configured to kill idle connections. This feature is now enabled by default in all hosted Groupboards.

GroupWorld.net has already had a keepalive option for a number of years.

GroupWorld.net hosted server status.

The hosted version of GroupWorld.net now has a server status page, allowing you to see how many users have logged in, the peak users, and various other information. Just click on the new link in your management page.

GroupWorld.net updates.

We have recently made a number of updates to the GroupWorld.net browser plugin, including:

• fixed a bug in the new file upload dialog for Windows, which sometimes caused the whiteboard buttons to stop working after uploading an image.
• added print support to Mac and Linux versions.
• fixed a bug in the Linux and Mac versions which caused the right-hand side of the yes/no dialogs to display incorrectly with some X-Servers.

If you are using Internet Explorer and have a hosted GroupWorld.net solution, the new plugin should download automatically. For firefox/mozilla, just delete the old plugin from your plugins directory.

We have also made a number of updates to the GroupWorld.net conference whiteboard, including:

• increased the default undo limit.
• added vector cut/copy/paste/delete so you can move items on the whiteboard, the same as with Groupboard Designer, and fixed a number of bugs/inconsistencies in the operation of the copy/cut/paste functions.

If you have a hosted solution you will automatically have these updates.
