HTML5 Groupworld client now operates through all types of firewall

We have recently made a change to the HTML5 web version of Groupworld so that it now uses ports 80 and 443 (the standard web browsing ports, which are permitted by all firewalls) instead of port 9175. This means that there will be no problems in future with connecting from behind a restrictive corporate/educational firewall that blocks ports. The HTML5 Groupworld client should now work through any type of firewall without any problems.

Groupworld API script to display number of users connected

We have recently created a script that displays the number of users connected to your Groupworld rooms. Simply use this URL:

http://www.groupworld.net/mp/gwusers.cgi?inst_id=1

(replace 1 with your hosted Groupworld id). You can place this inside an iframe to embed it in your web page. The script will display the number of users connected across all of your rooms.

Ability to edit text on whiteboard in Groupworld

You can now edit text that has already been placed on the whiteboard in Groupworld (when using the HTML5 web version of Groupworld). Simply click on the text (when using the text tool) and you will now be able to edit it.

Mouse wheel scrolling added to Groupboard Designer

You can now use the mouse wheel to scroll up/down/left/right within the page when using Groupboard Designer. This feature is already available in Groupworld.

Groupworld iPad app now supports retina displays

We have updated to Groupworld iPad app so that it now supports retina displays. This means that items drawn on the whiteboard will now use the full resolution of your iPad (i.e. lines and text will appear sharp).

We have also recently updated the Groupworld iPad app to fix some crashes on 64-bit devices such as the iPad Air and iPad Pro. The app should now be a lot more stable on these devices (i.e. not crash and return to the home screen). We are also now using Crashlytics, so that we get notified immediately of each crash.

Plugin-free web conferencing (hopefully) coming to Safari soon

Apple has been hiring engineers to port WebRTC to Safari. This means that eventually Groupworld will run on Safari without requiring any plugins. (Currently Safari does not support WebRTC, which is required for the audio/video conferencing in Groupworld). Apple has not given any timeframe for WebRTC support, but hopefully it will be later this year or next year:

TechCrunch: No matter how you slice it, Apple and WebRTC need each other

Ink dropper tool added to Groupboard

We have added an ink dropper tool to the new user interface in Groupboard. Simply choose the ink dropper tool from the tool palette (see the Groupboard User Manual).
